Open Letter to the Models

Congratulations on a job well done! You were quick learners and a lovely group of dynamic women.

I found a haven within the breast cancer community when I got involved with Stepping Out two years ago. It was my first commitment outside of my home after six months of treatments for stage 3 colon cancer. This fashion show was a great way to get back into the swing of things.

When I started training the models I had no idea that I could "teach" modeling and co-direct a fashion show. And I didn't expect to emotionally connect with so many brave and beautiful women. I couldn't wait to come back this year for another one-of-a-kind experience.

Each year that I've contributed my time to Stepping Out, I gained more confidence in myself. I knew what kind of high emotions you were going to experience. I also knew the satisfaction I would feel from bringing out the beautiful woman that lies within each one of you. The results exceeded my expectations. As you posed on stage and the spotlights were on you, I saw and felt the spark that came from you. You were on fire and projected energy into the audience. When you let go of your fears, it all came together.

It is difficult to explain what you did for me in return. I just knew it would feel right to be involved with this event once again. Each year has brought me to a better understanding of what I can give to others. You made it easy and fun for me to give you the gift of feeling lifted and excited. I thank all of you for helping me help you feel alive.

Remember to have and create fun each day…it is an essential part to healing and living.
